WoSV speakers x blog-04

Svetlana Vaz speaks to us about her role in the tech industry and shares her thoughts on Women of Silicon Valley, taking place May 2-3 in San Francisco.

Svetlana Vaz is a Senior Computer Scientist at Adobe. Her main focus at Adobe has been Sales Platform Operations and achieving true DevOps for the Sales Platform. She enjoys automating development processes as much as possible as well as building tools that make life easier for the Sales Engineering team.

Svetlana is also passionate about enabling teams to work together and to foster a culture of Learn, Collaborate & Share. In that regard she created a ‘Community of Practice’ that included demo-days, online e-learning courses, wikis and how-tos, as well as a team channel to encourage open communication.

Beyond her technical role, Svetlana has been actively involved in continuously streamlining the hiring and on-boarding process for the Sales Engineering team at Adobe.

Svetlana will be sharing her wisdom in a session entitled 'Future of Work Strategies for Retaining Top Talent' at 14:10 on May 2 at Women of Silicon Valley. The tech sector has one of the highest staff turnovers and, in her talk, Svetlana will be talking about company loyalty, modern attitudes to this, and how to retain top employees.

What are you most looking forward to at Women of Silicon Valley?

I’m looking forward to meeting and hearing from some of the most successful and inspirational women leaders in the industry and learning from their experiences, the challenges they've faced, and how they overcame them.

Who is your female tech inspiration? What have they done and why do they inspire you?

Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook. She is one of the most powerful women leaders in tech and yet so personable, approachable and friendly. I first got inspired by her when I read her book ‘Lean In’. I loved how she said  “women can have both a successful career and family”. I’m a firm believer in self-empowerment feminism and that women can reach greater heights if they truly believe in it and try their best.

Are you working on anything exciting at the moment that you’d like to share with our readers?

I’m very passionate about DevOps and am currently working on a model that could encompass the whole essence of operations using a simple framework that could be applied across organizations, irrespective of domain or technology.

Do it, and love it, if you're drawn to it. Keep your mind open, learn something new every day. Be kind, rational and objective. Don’t be afraid to take on a challenge. You need to aim beyond what you are capable of. The tech industry is wide, don’t be afraid to try out different things, fail at them, and figure out what you love doing best.
